Devices to improve eyesight in general have been around for hundreds of years. It was not until the 1800’s that opera glasses achieved their position as a status symbol among theater-goers of the day.
Opera was also an important social event. People attending the opera wanted to be able to see and be seen and often spent time scanning the audience as well. To do this, they needed a simple and convenient magnifying device. Opera glasses were the perfect solution.
Opera glasses rapidly became status symbols and ways for people to show off their wealth. If you had the money to attend the opera you wanted others to know it. And a great deal of business was conducted at intermission as well. A huge portion of the high society social calendar was taken up by opera season.
People found ways to make the glasses much more ornate. They became an accessory that told a lot about the owner’s social status. They often featured elaborate cases made of precious metals or that were highly enameled. Inlays of mother-of-pearl and other precious materials also became quite common. There were also several variations that became popular. They included the lorgnette, with a handle that allowed you to hold the glasses up to your face. There was also a folding version that was popular as it could be collapsed and stored in a purse or other case.
There are a number of places where you can find and purchase opera glasses. They still come in a range of different models and prices can range from the very reasonable to the extremely expensive. You may need to look a bit to find ones that fit your needs and your budget. Good starting places include camera stores and some Internet sites.
One thing to look at when selecting your opera glasses is what the level of magnification is. Unlike a telescope or high powered binoculars, you will want to make sure that there is a fairly low level of magnification. A 3x magnification factor is considered ideal. This allows you to get a large field of view and it will keep shaking from hand movement as low as possible.
Once you know what your options are you can decide what style you are interested in. They still come in folding and lorgnette styles. There are compact models which will fold down into plastic cases which can make them more durable for outside use. This could be handy at an outdoor concert or at a rock concert where you may accidentally drop them.
If you are someone who wants to view theatre performances but are not able to pay high prices for your tickets, then opera glasses might be a good solution for you. It will allow you to feel in touch with the past and still enjoy the fine details of modern performances from anywhere in the theater.
Jeff Bridges has always loved the theater and opera, he currently helps run an opera glasses retail site where they sell opera glasses. Including Opera Glasses with handle, flashlight, chain and more!

Many men have problems when it comes to dating (click here to find more on this). They aren’t sure what women really want or expect from them and with the shift in gender roles and attitudes, understanding the desires of a particular woman can be challenging. It takes confidence and the right attitude to get the response you want from a date.
Dating can be very easy with the right attitude and confidence to go along with it. One thing that guys need to avoid doing is committing the same mistakes when given various chances to date girls.
We are offering some advice for men who are unable to relate to women in social situations. If you follow our advice you may have more luck the next time you ask a lady for a second date.
Confidence Is Vital
A man or woman who exudes confidence is irresistible. A man who is arrogant is completely resistible. Confidence is the quality of being sure of yourself while respecting those around you. Arrogance is acting like you are the only person on the planet that matters. When you approach a woman, tell her you are interested and would like to know more about her.
If you come off as arrogant rather than confident, the tendency is for girls to drop hints of distaste or appear uninterested in you. By being confident, you just need to warm up to her.
After you have introduced yourself, mention some quality about her that cause you to approach her. Keep it non sexual. Refer instead to her smile or her fashion sense. Relax and smile. Don’t brag about your accomplishments. Instead ask about her and allow her to ask about you.
Always remain relaxed and approachable. If you are shaking or stuttering or don’t know what to say, the lady will most likely lose interest.
Keep Your Focus on Your Date
Girls absolutely love being adored, which is why you need to keep your focus on your date. Show her that you care about what she thinks or the things she finds interesting.
Getting to know your date will give you a lot of good clues that you can use in the latter part of your conversation. Say, if you want to go for a second date, girls will give you clues as to how you can politely ask them out again.
Strive to know more about your date and make her feel as if you really are sincere about getting to know her better. Compliment your date and make her feel special. Avoid looking at other girls or getting distracted by your surroundings.
Best places to get advice on how to get women to sleep with you are: how to pull women and how to get women. Make sure to check them both.

This year will mark the first installment of the biennial Artists of Hawaii 2009. The event is something that Hawaii residents all look forward to in attending because it will mark again the celebration of the locals’ talents and unique taste of the Arts. A guest curator will be featured this year who is none other than Laura Hoptman, the senior curator for the New York Museum of Contemporary Art.
To avoid confusion on what I am about to discuss to you now let me first give you the difference between Modern, Post modern and Contemporary Art as these are three subjects that are oftentimes misused. Contemporary Art depicts the art of the Modern times, it is often confused by Post modern because some claim that we actually live in the Post Modern era already and that any art that comes out during these times should be called as “Post Modern”.
Post modern art is described as the combination of the different Art Styles during the Modern era and these styles includes: Art Nouveau and Art Deco among many others. Post Modern style is always a mixture of two or more style era. Modern Art is described as Art that emerged after the renaissance Period or the Period of “rebirth”. It is oftentimes categorized as the Art created during the 18th to early 19th century. Contemporary Art is used to describe the current trend of Styles during the ongoing era. The term contemporary does not come into existence until the half of 19th century (1950’s) onwards.
Paintings are mostly on display on this exhibit. Expect young and talented artists churning out their fresh minds to create great pieces. Contemporary Hawaiian artists all gather at the Artists Guild to celebrate their talents by showing their creations to spectators and enthusiasts.
Come and visit the Artists of Hawaii 2009!

All of us celebrate one thing or another. Many of us already know that for every occasion it is a right occasion to take a picture right. You have holidays, reunions, sporting events etc. But what should you do with your pictures?
Luckily we live in the age of the easy way called the internet. You can also go the hard route with your images and do them yourself. The harder way is that way because you start with nothing at the beginning. But it can be more satisfying because its more work but more personal.
So what is your theme. What sorts of supplies do you use while putting your album together? Paper, pictures, leaves, doilies; whatever you feel like it there are no rules because it is your album and your treasure. If you want your picture to look good for many years here are a few tips:
1. You will want to consider using acid free paper if you are seriously considering putting your original pictures in your album. If not then one day you will open your album to your pictures having turned yellow and no longer as sharp. This effect is directly caused by the acid.
2. You do not want to waste time making borders? Just use a color printer. But be cautious as there are certain types of ink that can discolor your pictures in the long run.
3. You have your memories laid out like you want, with the colors you want. You know that there are absolutely no rules when you scrap book. You have chosen materials you want but you know that they may pose a risk to your memories. But you love the look. Now dont despair. With a few spritz of Archival Spray you can put it your souvenirs and create a barrier against the dreaded acid.
You can find all those materials crafts stores around the world or on line. All you need to remember is that you can do it all yourself. You can do your own journaling with special none acid paper and lingin free pens and markers.

Different countries celebrate Mother’s Day on different days, because this day has different roots of origin. To believe certain sources this day comes from a custom of mother worship in ancient Greece.
The ancient Romans also had a holiday, called Matronalia, and on this day mothers were given gifts. Besides the Mother’s Day, in many countries International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8th.
The author of modern Mother’s Day holiday is known to be Anna Jarvis. In 1912 she trademarked phrases “second Sunday in May” and “Mother’s day”. She has also created the Mother’s Day International Association.
Anna Jarvis created this day to honor the mother, not mothers in general. Which means that, the day is dedicated for the mother of each person, and each person has to honor his own mother.
The day was not recognized as national holiday immediately. Anna Jarvis first held a memorial for her late mother in 1907. It was a private ceremony. Later she ran campaigns to make this day popular.
Mother’s Day became popular in 1910 when clothing merchant John Wanamaker financed the campaigns. The holiday spread as a day for mother appreciation. It has become accepted as national holiday by US President Woodrow Wilson on May 14, 2009.
To this day, after almost 100 years, Mother’s Day is one of the best known and widely celebrated holidays. We honor our mothers during this day and give them presents.
In the entire world people celebrate Mother’s Day, and even though the dates differ, it means the same thing. We remember our mothers and show them our love and how important they are to us.
As that day comes closer, we can start thinking about what we will do on this day, how we will show our appreciation to our mothers, what gift we will give her.

Mother’s Day as we know it is a very profound and cheerful day. On this day we honor our mothers, and give them presents. We enjoy spending time with them and sharing old memories. It’s simply a very nice and sweet occasion to celebrate.
But very few people know the sad story of the founder of this day. Anna Marie Jarvis will always be remembered as the original author of this beautiful idea, and the story would end happily if it was not for the black stain on its past.
On May 12 of 1907 Anna Marie Jarvis has held a memorial for her mother who died two years earlier. After that day she took on a campaign to make the Mother’s Day a widely recognized day. She finally succeeded to do that and in 1914 it has become a national holiday.
As it were, the holiday has quickly become commercialized and Anna Marie didn’t appreciate that at all. In the 20s she incorporated herself as the “Mother’s Day International Association” and claimed the copyright of the second Sunday of May.
She was active in her campaign against the commercialization and even once was arrested for disturbing peace. She has spent her family heritage on her campaigns against the holiday she created and died in poverty.
Truly a sad story and that gives food for thought. The true meaning of this wonderful day has been taken over by cheesy gifts and to cite Anna Marie Jarvis, “A printed card means nothing except that you are too lazy to write to the woman who has done more for you than anyone in the world”; that stands true way too often.
Let’s not forget the meaning of this wonderful day and honor our mothers from our heart. It’s not the gifts that matter but your love. Give her a gift but make it symbol of your love.

Golf is a sport game that is performed around the world by ladies and gentlemen alike. To play the game you may want to have a set of golf clubs. A golf club is used to hit the ball across the fairway and onto the green so that you can get it into the hole.
A golf club is a metal club that has a head on it that you hit the ball with. There are some different versions of golf clubs offered to golf players.
The first type of golf club that any golfer will want to add to their collection is a wood. Woods are clubs that you use to hit the ball very far. For example, you might want to use this when you are first teeing off.
A wood golf club will traditionally have a larger head than other clubs as well as a longer shaft in order that while you strike the ball it will get more power and speed. It is what you need in order that your ball will go further.
The next golf club which you need to add to your set are several irons. These are clubs which have a flat angled face to them. Dependent on how sheer the slant is will influence how much loft your ball can get as you strike them.
As the angles get steeper, you will eventually run into a wedge golf club. This type of club is specifically designed to hit your ball a short distance, but with a lot of lift. Clubs like this are a great way to get out of a sand trap or around an obstacle.
Perhaps the most well known type of golf club is the putter. This club is specifically designed to be used on the green to hit your ball into the hole. Often, you will see versions of these on mini golf courses.
