Internet Radio Caters Fresh, New Music To Listeners

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Once you hear why I admit I am addicted to the Internet and spend way too much online, you will totally understand. You yourself might even get addicted too! Online Radio

Have you heard about Internet radio? It is listening to music online from an Internet radio station. IMRadio.com is actually my favorite. I always have it on in the background, no matter what I have going on in my life – homework, chores around the house, snuggling with my dog or flopping across my bed just to daydream.

My town’s musical selections are pretty lame. What I meant was my parents are happy with the choices on the radio like listening to country music. Since my younger sister is a Disney Freak, she is constantly glued in front of the TV and sings along with Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers. Being let alone anyone in this house, I just can’t stand that no one in this town understands me.

I am not a musician, but I do write a lot of poetry. Unless I find someone to team up with, my dream about my words becoming the lyrics to songs someday isn’t going to happen. Someone with awesome musical talent.

My parents think I’m just being lazy when I lay across my bed with my ear buds on, listening to IMRadio.com. It is a real investment for my future spending time sampling the different songwriters and bands who have posted their audio files in this site. The things that I hear and like are noted. I also take note of the things I hear that I don’t like. I look up their page and see if they live close enough to me to get in touch and see about making some music together when I find someone who might be a potential music partner for me.

I expect it will happen although I haven’t found the perfect person so far. There are so many new artists posting their work at IMRadio.com each week that I stay pretty busy sifting through them to see who I like.

The amount of raw talent on this web site is unbelievable. Uploading their work for free radio airplay was made easy for songwriters and bands. Even poets and comedians upload their files too, which really inspires me. I am in the process of recording some of them so I can proceed to the process of uploading my poems. Listening to myself on the Internet radio will be such a kick! Musicians

An Internet Radio Station For True Music Fans

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

I have a problem listening to the radio. Stations would play the same radio rotation over and over, and they just didn’t change. I get really tired of listening to the same songs by the same artists over and over. I was starting to get so fed up with it all that I would begin listening to talk radio instead. Unfortunately, talk radio becomes so boring that I just end up turning the radio off.

You see, I crave new music by new musicians. I want to listen to creativity and talent. I feel like the music industry ignores a lot of truly passionate, independent musicians. Every single time, artistic management agencies just go and pick more of the same to represent. You see the same stuff when you watch music videos on TV.

I was starting to become really cynical about music overall. In fact, I realized that I hadn’t listened to any music for quite some time. I’d become so bitter towards the music industry that I didn’t want to hear anything on the radio that reminded me of that.

Finally, I figured out that my girlfriend was tired of my whining about the lack of music with creativity. Apparently she found one website she thought was really great after she went online and searched internet radio stations. One night we sat down at the computer together, and she showed me the IM Radio site.

On IM Radio, I found internet radio at its finest. Independent musicians, poets, and comedians have all found a home there. You see, the typical air play is not what you’ll find there; they have something completely different. Their playlist features talented artists that are up and coming. None of the comedians, poets, artists, or musicians on the site have sold out. All of the website’s material is really new, fresh, and exciting. As a true independent internet radio station, IM Radio features offerings that are completely away from the norm. On that website, you won’t run out of new, talented creatives to follow.

My girlfriend and I finally turned the computer off after several hours of listening. However, we now leave the computer on at the IM Radio site all the time. While we clean house, read, or watch TV, we are listening. Sometimes we become entranced by the latest thing playing on the internet radio station, so we’ll just sit on the couch and let our minds wander. We’ve discovered that we are really inspired by some of the stuff they play, too. A lot of times I’ll be listening to the IM Radio airplay, and I’ll come up with a lot of amazing ideas.

You definitely need to check out IM Radio if you’ve become as cynical about radio as I was. You’ll find music, comedy, and poetry from artists that are still incredibly creative and full of talent; all while you listen to a whole new internet radio station. I’ve never found that their playlist seems stale; it changes all the time.

Listen now and click the IM Radio page. After you’ve listened to this excellent indie radio station, I promise you’ll become excited about music again.

Consider Cheap Drum Kits as You Learn to Play Drums

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

If I was buying tools or clothing, I try to buy quality so it will last. As a beginner drummer, I bought a cheap drum kit and was glad I did. I did not have the money at the time to waste and would have regretted a big investment up front. I mainly wanted to try it out and learn to play the drums.

I can remember when I had an obsession for the first time to play the drums. Having been a rudiment drummer in my high school marching band, I knew a bit about the instruments. So, after years of taking a break from playing I was ready to get back to it. I was not mentally or financially prepared to ante up thousands of dollars or even several hundreds to satisfy my need to play.

Fortunately there were plenty of options to start out at a reasonable price range say, $250-$500. My original kit was used and fairly well worn in. I did not care since I was focused on learning to play and gauge my interest along the way before committing to big money on a really good sounding kit.

Your choice are brand and off brand. Try to stay clear of low end off brands unless your budget is tight. Buying a higher end off brand would be best if not a low end brand name. Brand name drum kits include Pearl, Ludwig, Gretch, and DW. Consider your investment in cymbals as these can vary greatly. You can always upgrade from your cheap drum kit.

Getting your mind right on what your going to invest in time, energy and money is very good at the start. Considering whether you are just playing solo, playing in a local band or pursuing a professional career, playing the drums is the coolest instrument.

An option that can make sense in the beginning is buying an electronic drum kit. Consider the customization of sound and the control of noise if you live in an apartment or neighborhood. It can be a good way to go even though the price can tend to be more than a cheap drum kit.

I highly recommend taking drum lessons. Either from a one on one instructor or choose one of the good DVD program online. You will not regret it. You save money on buying a cheap drum kit, now invest in your skills. You will enjoy playing more and it may ensure you stick with drumming. Your family will be glad for it and if you’re really good the thousands of fans will appreciate it too.

Go check out Oscar Acosta’s examples of cheap drum kits and a really good resource for beginning drummers at www.cheapdrumkits.org. Your drumming experience is up to you.

Classic Rock Legends

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Classic rock is a term used loosely to describe albums released in the early to late 70’s by artists that have become legendary and therefore “classics.” Most of these artists were highly original and became influential on many bands in subsequent generations to come. No matter what era you were born in, almost any band you listen to has been influenced by artists and bands from the 1970s. Moreover, even if you are only in your teens and you think your favorite band is “totally original,” chances are they were influenced by a musician or group from that era, even if they don’t consciously know it.

The seventies were a great era because it was truly a ground breaking time for music. Nothing was copied or rehashed and everyone had their own sound. The 1970s represented a culmination and expansion of sounds that were experimented on in the 1960s. Bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Free, Allman Brothers, Queen, Black Sabbath, Cream, David Bowie, Status Quo are all examples of acts who made their start in the 60’s but found their sound and style in the 70’s, and therefore gave rise to many other bands who then added their own flavour to these styles. Lesser known bands such as Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash, Grand Funk Railroad, Scorpions (who became quite huge in the 80’s), and Thin Lizzy are worthy of mentions but would not necessarily legends, where as other acts such as Queen became absolutely huge and remain so to this day.

Rockers such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Free, Allman Brothers, Queen, Black Sabbath, Cream, David Bowie, Status Quo are all examples of acts who made their start in the 60’s but found their sound and style in the 70’s, and therefore gave rise to many other bands who then added their own uniqueness to these styles. I could go on for hours about classic rock but some songs and albums rate a special mention for their guitar prowess and are worth your time to have at least a quick listen.

WISHBONE ASH: Guitarists: Andy Powell & Ted Turner. Choice albums: Argus and There’s The Rub. Excellent melody and twin harmony lead breaks, copied by many acts since! Very complex arrangements.

UFO: Guitarist: Michael Schenker. Choice Albums: Phenomenon and Force It. Songs: Rock Bottom One of the most exciting and dynamic solos ever recorded, he was about 18 at the time!

This decade produced excellent music and it is not just the big name bands. Learn more about all the bands and expand your music tastes. You’ll thank me when you did and you will be rocking out all night.
