One of the ways to reduce the food waste in your house is organizing your pantry. Well organized pantry will make your cooking more productive, save your time and keep you away from frustration. Here is how. When you cook and you have your pantry not in order you usually can’t find anything for your recipes even though you were sure the necessary item was there. So you end up getting annoyed, waste time on looking for the product making a bigger mess and go buy another product to replace the one missing. And then of course you find it. It is classic. So, now it is obvious why it is important to keep your pantry organized.
Assign a particular place for an each item. You can assign one shelf for canned foods, another one for cereal, another shelf for spices, and other things like boxes of prepared meals like mac and cheese, etc. You can split your shelf for a couple of different foods. Make sure that you keep multiples of foods together so that you will be able to define the amount of food you have right away.
Get rid of any dead space on your shelves. Make sure you don’t have a lot of unused space in your pantry. For example, when you put your cans of food on the shelf and there is a lot of empty space above the cans but you cannot fit another row of cans on top. You can adjust your selves the way you can use the dead space more productive.
Replace the paper or plastic bags with your noodles, flour, popcorn, sugar, rice and other foods with other containers. Open bags with foods like that always lead to spills and mess. You can use canisters, cans, jars or other containers to store these items safely and without creating mess. If you have pretty glass jars to use you can store attractive food there like noodles, rice or others and put them on your counter for a display and save the space in the pantry. You can also put taller containers in the back of the pantry which will make your search easier.
It can be very rewarding to organize your pantry. There are a lot of benefits to keeping your pantry in order. You save your time, don’t get frustrated if you can’t find something and save your money because you don’t have to buy the same thing that is lost somewhere in your messy pantry. You will love it when you open the doors of your pantry and see everything in order, pretty and clean or simply can see everything there is and don’t have boxes or cans falling on your head.
